Roscosmos Head Anatoly Perminov held a meeting with Governor of Amur region Oleg Kozhemiako to discuss common efforts aimed at construction of the Vostochny space port in the Far East of Russia. The space port is to be built in the Amur region not far away from the town of Uglegorsk.
After the meeting, Mr. Kozhemiako shared his opinion about prospective of the project.
What regional resources are involved in the Vostochny construction efforts?
We involve all possible regional resources in these efforts. Certainly, this concerns real estate management, agricultural potential, etc. Administration of the region will accept advanced budgeting for the objects essential for the space port’s employees, or people who may fly to space in the future. We have to grow up healthy young people. So, we have to build a sport center in Uglegorsk.
It is also important to maintain the current infrastructure of Uglegorsk. It is a socially wealthy town, with a potential for future economical evolution. Regional authorities have to support it all, to begin construction efforts in time together with Roscosmos. Vostochy is an important project not only for the region; it is a national priority. Russia will improve its positions as a world space leader through building the modern Vostochny. This space port can be the face of renewed Russia; the future of our country is lined with Vostochny. That is why, Amur region hosts grand celebrations of the Cosmonautics Day on April 12. The region is eager to have the space port built there.
What positive outcomes for the region can Vostochny give?
Of course, in the project, we observe some response from investors, power companies, Federal network companies, etc. Builders are also looking forward to construction activities. You see, the space port is a kind of locomotive: it will lead to construction of new hydro-electrical stations, new markets, new power lines which are to support reliable operations, new factories to provide primary materials, etc. Regional production capacity will increase twice due to the objects I mentioned above. Thus, the space port represents the future not only for the Far East, but for Russia.
You might have to update the symbol of the region to introduce some space images…
We will discuss this proposal with the Administration of the region with great pleasure.
